The University of Warwick, near Coventry in the English Midlands, is a young Russell Group university with a big reputation, especially in economics, mathematics, computer science, business and the social sciences. It has a large self-contained campus with its own arts centre, sports facilities and accommodation, and a large international community.
For most Warwick courses starting in September 2027, the UCAS deadline is 13 January 2027, and there’s still a January sitting of the TMUA. Here are 10 things you can do to give yourself the best chance, based on Warwick’s own guidance. If you’re applying for a master’s or PhD instead, see the section near the end.
1. Choose your course and read the offer carefully
Warwick’s course pages give a typical offer, a contextual offer for eligible UK applicants and any test requirement. Read them carefully: some courses have specific subject grades, and some use the TMUA.
2. Achieve the typical offer
For example, for 2027 entry, Economics BSc asks for A*AA including A in Mathematics, or 38 points in the IB with 6 in Higher Level Mathematics. You also need GCSE English Language at grade 6 or B, or an equivalent. Warwick Economics BSc.
3. Take the TMUA if your course uses it
Warwick uses the TMUA in different ways:
- Computer Science and Discrete Mathematics: required for all applicants except those eligible for a contextual offer.
- Mathematics: you’ll typically need to take the TMUA or STEP.
- Economics and Statistics courses: optional, but a high score can help. For Economics, applicants with the highest TMUA scores may be considered for a reduced offer of AAA.
The October 2026 sitting has passed, but you can take the TMUA from 4 to 8 January 2027; online registration for January closes on 21 December 2026. Results are only valid for one year. Practise with past papers. Warwick admissions tests.
4. Write a strong personal statement
The UCAS personal statement asks three questions: why you want to study your chosen course, how your education has prepared you, and what other experiences have prepared you. You have 4,000 characters in total, and each answer must be at least 350 characters. Warwick’s popular courses get many applicants with top predicted grades, so your statement is one of the best ways to stand out. Admissions tutors want evidence of real interest in the subject, so explain what you’ve done and what you learned from it.
5. Show your quantitative and analytical skills
Many of Warwick’s most popular courses, such as Economics, MORSE, Data Science and Computer Science, are mathematical. Show that you enjoy problem-solving: maths competitions, coding projects, data analysis, an EPQ or reading about how maths is used in your subject.
6. Get a strong reference
Your teacher’s reference helps Warwick understand your achievements in context. It should give your predicted grades and describe your strengths in the subject you’re applying for. Ask early, especially if your school isn’t used to UCAS applications, and give your referee plenty of time before the January deadline.
7. Apply by 13 January 2027
Submit your UCAS application by 6pm UK time on 13 January 2027, the equal consideration deadline for most Warwick courses starting in September 2027. You don’t get an advantage from applying early, but leave time for your school to add its reference before the deadline. If you’re hoping to study medicine or dentistry, note that the UCAS deadline for 2027 entry was 15 October 2026, and you’d also have needed to sit the UCAT, so you’d now be planning for 2028 entry.
8. Meet the English language band
Warwick sets English requirements in bands. For September 2026 entry, Band A was IELTS 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each part, Band B was 6.5 with at least 6.0, and Band C was 7.0 with at least 6.5. Economics uses Band C. Check the 2027 requirements for your course, and remember that IELTS and PTE tests must be taken within two years and one month before your course starts. Practise with our free IELTS, TOEFL and PTE practice tests.
9. Plan your budget
Warwick’s overseas fees are set in bands. For example, Economics was in Band 2 at £35,530 a year for 2026–27, and 2027–28 fees hadn’t been set when we checked. Warwick’s Economics department says it doesn’t offer departmental undergraduate scholarships, and the Warwick Bursary is only for qualifying home students, so plan your funding carefully and check Warwick’s central scholarships pages.
10. Get ready for your Student visa
Most students from outside the UK and Ireland need a Student visa. You can apply once you have a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from Warwick, which it issues after you’ve accepted your offer and met the conditions. You’ll need to show you have enough money for your fees and living costs. After you graduate, the Graduate Route usually lets you work in the UK, but it’s due to be shortened from two years to 18 months for applications made from 1 January 2027. Check GOV.UK for the current rules.
Applying for a master’s or PhD at Warwick?
Warwick offers many one-year master’s degrees and PhDs, including programmes at Warwick Business School and in economics, data science and computer science. Each programme sets its own requirements and deadlines. You apply directly to the university, not through UCAS. Most programmes ask for a good first degree (often a UK upper second-class degree or the equivalent), a personal statement, references and, for international applicants, an English test. Be ambitious, but apply to a balanced list
Warwick turns down many strong applicants every year, because there are more excellent students than places. Use your five UCAS choices wisely: apply to Warwick if it’s right for you, and include universities where your chances are good. Read our guides to other Russell Group universities, including LSE, UCL, Bristol and Durham.
