Visa requirements

  • Student visa for 1 year, issued on an invitation your university requests from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; many nationalities can enter visa-free but still need student status and registration
  • Signed study contract with the university and usually a deposit of 50% of the first year's tuition
  • Passport, photos and the visa application form
  • Registration at your address (usually arranged by the university) after arrival
  • Work generally needs a separate work permit; check with your university before taking a job

Work permit after studies

  • No post-study work visa
  • With a job offer, your employer must arrange a work permit; highly qualified specialists have a simpler route

Citizenship route

  • Permanent residence is possible after 5 years of legal residence, or through marriage to an Uzbek citizen or investment; student status alone doesn't lead to it
  • Citizenship requires 5 years of permanent residence, Uzbek language and giving up other citizenship

Family details

  • There's no standard dependant visa for students' families
  • Family members can visit visa-free (for many nationalities) or on tourist visas, and can't work without a permit
