Visa requirements
- Monaco has no visa service of its own: non-EU students apply at a French embassy, consulate or visa centre
- Living in Monaco: long-stay student visa (valid 3 months), then apply for a Monaco residence card (carte de séjour) within 2 months of arriving
- Living in nearby France (most students do): French long-stay visa (VLS-TS) instead, and commute to Monaco
- Admission letter from a Monaco institution, such as the International University of Monaco
- A Monaco residence card needs a rental contract or proof of accommodation in Monaco and high proof of funds, usually in a Monaco bank account
- Health and personal liability insurance for the whole course
Work permit after studies
- No dedicated post-study work visa
- You need a job offer and a work permit (autorisation d'embauche) for every job in Monaco
- By law, employers must give priority to Monégasques, then Monaco residents, then people living in neighbouring French communes
- Many graduates live in France and commute to work in Monaco
Citizenship route
- Naturalisation needs at least 10 years of ordinary residence in Monaco after age 18
- The Sovereign Prince decides each application personally and may refuse or waive the rule
- Citizenship is very rarely granted
Family details
- There is no family-reunification route as in the EU: a spouse or children can apply for residence if you can show suitable housing, enough money and legal status for them too
- In practice this is hard on a student budget, and many families live in neighbouring France instead
- A spouse needs their own work permit to work in Monaco
