Visa requirements

  • Apply through the 'Study in Egypt' (Wafeden) platform, which handles registration for international students at Egyptian universities
  • Enter on an entry visa, then register with your university's foreign students (Wafedin) office to start your student residence permit
  • Enrolment letter, passport, photos, and proof of accommodation and funds
  • The residence permit lasts 12 months and is renewed each year of study
  • A student residence permit doesn't allow general work; only university-arranged roles such as teaching or research assistantships

Work permit after studies

  • No post-study work visa
  • Foreign graduates need a job offer and a work permit under the 2025 foreign worker rules (Ministerial Decree 279 of 2025), which limit the share of foreign staff

Citizenship route

  • Student residence doesn't lead to permanent residence
  • Naturalisation is discretionary and usually needs at least 10 years of residence; investment-based routes also exist

Family details

  • First-degree relatives (spouse and children) can get residence permits linked to your study period
  • They can't work on that residence
