The GMAT is expensive to take (the exam fee is US$275 in many countries), so it makes sense to practise properly before test day. The good news is that you don’t need to spend anything on mock exams to get started. The organisation that runs the GMAT, several of the world’s top business schools and many test-prep companies all offer free practice tests for the current GMAT Focus Edition.
We’ve collected 50 of them in one place: official exams, free simulators run by business schools such as London Business School, INSEAD and IE, full-length mocks from prep companies, and free question banks for targeted practice. Every link was checked in October 2026.
How we counted: where a provider gives you several separate free tests (for example, a full-length mock plus sectional tests), each test counts once. We’ve left out free tests that still use the old GMAT format with Sentence Correction, Integrated Reasoning or an essay, because they no longer match the real exam.
First, a quick reminder of the GMAT Focus format
- Three sections, 45 minutes each: Quantitative Reasoning (21 questions), Verbal Reasoning (23 questions) and Data Insights (20 questions), so 64 questions in 2 hours 15 minutes.
- Scores run from 205 to 805.
- It’s adaptive: the difficulty of the questions changes as you answer, so the most realistic practice comes from adaptive, full-length tests.
A test labelled “GMAT Focus” or one that includes Data Insights is the right format. If a free test has Sentence Correction, Integrated Reasoning or an essay (AWA), it’s for the old exam.
Official GMAT practice from GMAC (mba.com)
These come from GMAC, the organisation that writes the GMAT, so they use real retired questions and the same scoring as the actual exam. They’re the most accurate predictor of your score, so many students save at least one for the final weeks before test day. You need a free mba.com account, but you don’t need to have registered for the exam.

How to get the most from free GMAT practice tests
- Start small: take a short diagnostic (such as the Magoosh quiz or a school’s micro test) to see where you stand before doing a full-length test.
- Save the official exams: GMAC’s Practice Exams 1 and 2 are the most accurate, but there are only two free ones. Use one early as a baseline and keep one for the last two weeks.
- Simulate test day: do full-length tests in one sitting, at the time of day you’ll sit the exam, without pausing.
- Review every mistake: spend at least as long reviewing a test as taking it. Your error log is worth more than the score.
- Don’t worry if scores differ: each company scores its tests differently, so a third-party score is only a rough guide. Track your trend over time instead.
- Mix in targeted practice: use the free question banks above for your weakest topics between full-length tests.
Do you need the GMAT for your degree abroad?
Many business schools in the UK, Europe, Canada and Australia accept the GRE instead of the GMAT, and some master’s programmes don’t require either. Check each programme’s admissions page before you start preparing. If you’re not sure which countries and universities fit your goals and budget, start with our free study abroad assessment, or browse universities on our Universities page.
All links and free offers were checked in October 2026. Test-prep companies change what they offer free from time to time, so check the details on each website before you sign up. StudyAbroadMarket is not affiliated with any of the providers listed.
